Description

We're looking at the cloud service today and Filehoster Filer.net The provider has existed since 2006 and has continuously improved its service. It is one of the few providers that still offers a free account with up to 300 KB/s download speed. The Filer.net Premium Account promises significantly more advantages.

Premium Account Benefits:

  • Fast download speed
  • Support for Download Manager (JDownloader 2)
  • Parallel Downloads
  • Anonymous Downloads
  • No waiting time and no ads

Download Test

We are taking a close look at Filer.net and testing the download speed with a free account and multiple multi-hosters. For this, we uploaded a 300 MB test file to Filer and are using the Chrome browser without VPN or other extensions.

  • Is the premium account worth it?
  • Can one work with the free account?
  • Which multi-hosters support Filer.net?
  • How fast is the download speed?

Secure Filer.net Premium Account *

File kfree account

Before you can start the download with a free account, you must first 60 second wait time bridge. After the waiting period, you still have to Solve captcha and you can start the download.

The free Filer.net account doesn't quite deliver on its promises. Download speeds fluctuate between 180 and 192 Kilobytes per second. The value is high compared to other file hosters and can definitely hold its own. For 300 MB, we would need approximately 26 minutes. We could comfortably download an audio drama or an e-paper like this.

Update 04/21/2022Today, I could only download at a maximum of 30 KB per second with Filer's free account.

Premiumize.me Multihoster Test

With the multihoster Premiumize.me we have very good results achieved. We were able to download from Filer.net at maximum speed and fully utilized our 50 Mbit internet connection. We had an average speed of approx. 7 MB per second. We have already had very good experiences with the multihoster on other one-click hosts and can recommend it with a clear conscience.

Linkifier Multihoster

With Linkifier we also had no problems and had good experiences. The download started immediately and fully utilized our temporary 16 Mbit connection. We downloaded the file from Filer.net at approx. 2 MB per second, thus reaching our maximum speed. We can also recommend the multihoster Linkifier. We can no longer recommend Linkifier (as of October 2024).

Linksnappy Premium Test

The Multihoster Linksnappy We usually praise it for its good service, accessibility, and download speed. Unfortunately, today we couldn't reach the file hoster Filer.net with Linksnappy, even though the hoster is actually supported. We will try to access files from Filer.net again in the next few days and provide an update on the test.

Update 5.3.2020:

We tried to download the file from Filer.net again the same day with Linksnappy. This time it worked. no problem worked. We took our old Telekom line from the Stone Age with 16 Mbit again and reached almost 1.000 Kilobytes per second. Additionally, we have the Download Manager used, as recommended by Linksnappy.

Filer.net FAQ (As of: September 8, 2025)

What is Filer.net?
Filer.net is a file hoster for uploading, storing, and sharing large files. You'll get download links that you can use for yourself or for your recipients.

How does Filer.net work?
You register (for free), upload files, and get a unique link. Others can click this link and download the file.

Is Filer.net free?
Yes. There is a free mode with limitations (e.g., waiting times, lower speed). For maximum speed and convenience, there is Premium.

What's the difference between Premium and Free modes?
Premium usually offers full speed, multiple simultaneous downloads, reduced/no waiting times, more convenient handling with download managers, and more generous quotas.

Does Premium renew automatically?
As a rule, these are time-limited terms without a subscription trap. You can see the details at checkout – the ordering process is always decisive.

How large can an uploaded file be?
The maximum size depends on your current plan/status. You can find the currently valid limits in your account or during the upload.

How much traffic do I have as a premium user per day?
Premium works with daily quotas. You can see the exact amount and any savings limits (rollover) in your account.

Are there any waiting times or captchas?
Yes, in free mode. Premium usually starts without a waiting window and with prioritized throughput.

What number types are supported?
Depending on the region, options include credit/debit card, online payment providers, gift cards/eVouchers, and in some cases, cryptocurrencies. Availability and potential surcharges depend on the payment method.

Will I receive an invoice with VAT shown?
Yes, for premium purchases, you can provide billing details during the checkout process and retrieve receipts. Check your inbox/account after the purchase.

Does Filer.net support download managers like JDownloader?
Yes. Add your premium login in the download manager, copy the links into the link collector, and start the download. Keep software and plugins up to date.

How do I set up JDownloader optimally?

  • Settings → Account Manager Add Filer.net Account

  • Moderate start: 2–4 simultaneous downloads, 2–4 Chunks per file

  • Set Standard Download Folder

  • No unnecessary VPN/Proxy cascades, as they can throttle

The download is slow - what helps?
Use LAN/5 GHz WLAN, pause parallel streams, fewer simultaneous downloads/chunks, disable VPN/proxy, test a different time window, check account status/traffic.

The download stops or gets stuck at 99 %—what should I do?
Briefly stop and restart, reduce chunks, ensure enough storage space, do not delete temporary part files. If necessary, restart the browser/manager.

„File not found“ - what does that mean?
The file was deleted, has expired, or was never fully uploaded. Please ask the uploader for a fresh link or the missing part.

Does Filer.net support „Resume“ (continuing interrupted downloads)?
In combination with download managers, usually yes. Works most stably with moderate chunks and few parallel files.

Can I use Filer.net on a NAS (Synology/QNAP)?
Yes, via Download Station/hoster plugins or alternative tools like pyLoad. Check your model's compatibility and keep plugins up to date.

Is there an API?
Filer.net provides interfaces through which downloads/status can be queried automatically. You can find the technical details in the developer notes in your account/FAQ.

How secure is my data?
Transmissions are encrypted, and access is granted via unique links and account controls. 100 % There’s no such thing as perfect security: Use strong passwords (and 2FA if available) and keep your devices up to date.

Should I encrypt archives additionally?
Yes, for sensitive content, it is recommended Client-side encryption (e.g., 7-Zip with AES). Transmit and securely manage passwords separately.

How do I know if a download is trustworthy?
Check filename/extension/size. Do not open unexpected .exe/.bat/.scr. Use virus scanners and verify checksums (MD5/SHA) if available.

Does Filer.net support parallel downloads?
Yes, with Premium. How many are sensible at the same time depends on your connection and the manager (2-4 are a good starting point).

Why do CAPTCHAs appear – and how do I solve problems with them?
They protect against abuse. If captchas are stuck: reload the page, temporarily disable ad/script blockers, use a different browser window, allow pop-ups in the download manager.

Can I purchase additional bandwidth/traffic?
Additional packages are often available for Premium. Availability and prices vary – check the options in your account/checkout.

How long do files remain online?
This depends on the activity, plan, and policies. Free uploads may be removed faster due to inactivity, while Premium generally offers longer availability.

What do „slots,“ „chunks,“ and „connections“ mean in a download manager?

  • Slots How many files are running simultaneously

  • Chunks: How many connections a file uses

  • Rule of thumb Less is often more stable (e.g., 2–4/2–4) – too many connections don't automatically bring more speed.

What are typical error messages – and what do they mean?

  • Temporarily unavailable / Server busy: Please wait a moment, try again

  • Rate-Limit / Too many connections: Reduce slots/chunks, insert pause

  • Invalid link: Typo or deleted file

  • Traffic consumed: Wait for the next day or check the add-on package

Are there refunds/cancellations?
Digital lead times are subject to special rules. Check the cancellation policy in the checkout before purchasing and document receipts.

What's the quickest way to contact support?
Via the contact form/email in the account/help section. Send relevant information directly: Order ID, payment receipt, affected links, time, download manager used.

Can I use Filer.net with multihosters/debrids?
Many multi-hosters support Filer links. This offers convenience and fallbacks, but coverage and speed vary by provider/region – test with your setup.

Which browsers are best suited?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. Keep add-ons up to date and, if problems occur, try loading in private mode without extensions.

What best practices improve the success rate?

  • Large files via download manager

  • Disable energy/sleep mode during download

  • Allow sufficient storage space (archives temporarily require more space)

  • Regular link checks for important projects

Are unwanted or illegal content allowed?
No. Such content is expressly prohibited. Violations will result in bans and may have legal consequences.

Can I pause my premium subscription?
A pause is generally not included. Plan runtimes as needed and use shorter options if you want to remain more flexible.

Are there regional differences in speed?
As with any hoster, region and time of day can have an influence. Test during your peak times and adjust slots/chunks accordingly.

How do I secure my account?
Use unique, strong passwords, utilize password managers, ignore phishing emails, activate login notifications (if available), and enable 2FA if offered.

No way to pay the monthly fee if you only have a basic debit card. No instant transfer, no direct debit, no bank transfer. There are people who don't like PayPal and don't have the other payment options and don't want them. You are alienating potential customers with this.

Then pay with a Paysafe Card, which can be bought almost anywhere (you can search for a nearby sales outlet online).
Paysafe Card codes up to 50 Euros per card can be used without a Paysafe account.
